Planning Cinematography

purpose of cinematography
4 camera shots
what effect they create
how conventional
build relationship

The purpose of cinematography is moving camera shots that create a narrative. This includes the quality of the film stock, the manipulation of the camera lens, framing, scale and movement and lets the audience know what the song is about, by the different shots which are used. Its a function of the relationship between the camera lens and a light source, the focal length of the lens, the cameras position and its capacity for motion.

In our music video we are going to use a focus shot which we think would be successful to film the apples that have fell from the tree, this highlights that it is a major part of the music video and links to Goodwin's theory as there is a link between lyrics and visuals. We also are going to add a long shot in our music video as we think this will show a lot of the natural surroundings in the background that will show the rawness of the music video. Another shot that we will use in our music video will be a close up, this will be used as a close up of the guitar while Georgia is playing it and a close up on both of their hands as they are walking down the street in Brick Lane. These shots are conventional in an Indie music video, and are also common in most music video's as they all try to show you more of the music video so you can interact more with the artist and can see a little bit of their lives. This builds a relationship as the audience thinks they know the artist personally.

  1. This post demonstrates basic planning techniques. You have included a variety of camera shots that you would like to include within your own music video, but further explanation of where the shot will be used, in needed to demonstrate further planning techniques.

You also need to explain how you will follow the codes and conventions of an indie music video in further detail.
