Group Digipak

Group Digipak

My group and I were given the task to make a Digi Pak this included one from each member which we would then pick out of to be the group Digi pak. In order to make the Digi Pak we each took photos from the photo shoot that we liked and put them into 6 slides that had to show the front and back cover, the CD, and 3 other pictures. We developed these by using Photoshop on the Mac's to enhance features and make them more presentable and polished.

With the magazine cover belonging to Drew, we decided that we should stick with his Digi Pak as they related more to each other. This would give more of a professional feel to the ancillary products as they all matched. This is vital to the ancillary products as otherwise they would look out of place. Although everyone in the group had very good Digi Pak's we each thought that staying with Drew's ancillary products would be better. All of the 6 frames in the Digi Pak that Drew made were related, this gives the contrast between the rebellious Georgia and the shy Georgia, which again was a good feature that each of us thought. The group Digi Pak has an edgy feel which is conventional to the Indie genre. Showing both sides of Georgia's personality and having both the ancillary products matching would build a greater relationship between the audience and the artist. In contrast i think that Drew could of made some improvements to his Digi Pak, such as making there less of a blur which gives the effect that its more of a dance record, and having more personal photos of Georgia without any effect which shows her shy, niave personality which the audience would like to get to know more. I also think he should of used the same writing for all of the slides which would make it more consistent. A part of the Digi Pak i do like is where he has dotted parts of newspaper around. I think this gives the idea that they are memories, a bit like what the music video is. It shows the audience that nothing is ever the same and everything always changes. Another change Drew could of made to improve his Digi Pak would be rather than having a picture on each frame of it, have another object which is conventional of the Indie genre, such as a guitar, or some images from Camden which would make the Digi Pak more edgy. Below is Drew's Digi Pak.

I will be commenting on each of the groups Digi Pak's, what is good, what could be improved and how it is conventional for the genre. First i will look at Jenna's.

While analysing Jenna's Digi Pak we can see that the theme of the high key lighting is shown in each picture. This gives the Digi Pak a more consistent look. It follows the conventions of the Indie genre, using the forest in the background shows an innocent, happy and rebellious side of Georgia that the audience may not know. To improve this Digi Pak i would change the font and the colour's so that they stand out more when viewing the ancillary product. This would make the CD cover be seen from further away and be more significant. The image that is on the Thank you cover shows Georgia looking happy this lets the audience know that she is happy with the album and sends her thank you's to everyone who helped her with the album. It has a very heartwarming message to all those that helped her which shows her appreciation to everyone. Overall i think this Digi Pak relates to the conventions of an Indie genre and shows Georgia in a good light that would want to come across throughout the ancillary products and the music video.

Finally i will analyse Georgia's Digi Pak.

Georgia followed Indie conventions well, she included various pictures with the guitar in view which follows the conventions and lets the audience know she makes her own songs and is a more real artist. All of her frames coincide with each other, they each have brick on the picture which relates to the music video aswell, this gives the idea that she is both innocent with the forest and the guitar and edgy with bricks everywhere. I like this idea as the audience get to know Georgia for who she is rather than the character she is playing to get sales. Georgia hasn't written a thank you cover which i think is fairly important as it gives the artist the chance to thank everyone who has worked on the record. I think the CD cover which she has made with a different pattern going across the brick work looks really good, which stops the CD from being boring with just the bricks over it. Overall, i think that Georgia has made a good Digi Pak which relates to the Indie genre.

After reviewing everyone's Digi Pak's, we have chosen to use Drew's as the group Digi Pak as it is more consistent with the magazine cover also by Drew. This makes the whole ancillary products look professional as they have the same kind of look. They both use the features of ripped newspaper which creates an edgy effect, and also makes you want to find out more about Georgia Ray.

Rough Cut

  • Why is Rough cut important to consider
  • Why is it important to consider audience feedback
  • How did you recieve your feedback? Youtube, interview?
  • What feedback did you recieve?
  • How will the feedback assist you with finalising your final music video?
Rough cut is important to consider when making a music video as we can evaluate our music video and get other people's opinions from outside of the group to make changes which can improve the music video in a whole.

One of the main processes which help us make a better music video is when we get feedback this lets other people criticise our music video and give us positive and negative feedback which we take on and change to accord. Everyone will have a different opinion on this so it is good to get everyones different conception to get the best music video we can possibly get.

Our group deciding to share our music video on Youtube so we can also get other peoples opinions that we don't know. This makes the criticism more harsh as they aren't trying to make us feel good. It also has a huge number of people which visits the site on a regular basis which means there will be more people viewing the music video than any other social networking site. We also showed people at school who gave us helpful information such as a teacher who stated 'Its a great music video, however some of the performance singing is out of time'. We initially thought we would have to add a bit of film to make the music fit the video and after fiddling around with the video we changed it so it is now in time. We also had a comment from a student in media, Amy who said 'It is very conventional to the indie genre, i love how the characters are really quirky'. This shows that we have been successful in representing our characters and genre as Indie. This is a positive comment that made us happy with the footage we have. These pieces of feedback let us finish our work to a good standard which answers the feedback we have had.

As we have a fairly young target audience we realised we needed to promote the music video in places where young people would socialize. This lead us to social networking sites such as facebook. We decided to share the music video to facebook via youtube which allowed us to promote the video to our friends aswell as strangers over the internet. This makes it easier for all different types of people to view the music video which will be published on many social networking sites.

The feedback which we have received after showcasing our rough cut video has allowed us to find out other peoples criticisms on how we can improve our video. Changes that we made were retiming Georgia's singing so it fits perfectly with the song. We also added some more effects with some of the footage and also made flashes inbetween the cuts if some sections when the two are in Camden. This has made the video a lot better and makes it look more professional. I am extremely happy with how the music video has turned out.

Before we start to film, we have to make sure that everyone in our group is aware of the risks that they would be taking. Our well being is our main focus and we don't want to endanger ourselves while trying to film something. In order to remind ourselves we wrote a risk assessment that we could go back on and let us assess the potential risks we could face. For example, being around a busy area such as Brick Lane could lead to theft of our props and filming equipment, this would be noted in the risk assessment and we would find ways in which we could prevent theft such as taking bigger bags to put props in and making sure everyone has an eye on our possessions. A risk assessment will also let us avoid any injuries during the filming process and using out initative rather than forgetting about our health and safety which taking part in filming a music video. Another risk while filming in the forest would be for Georgia as there are branches on the floor which are covered in leaves so we could see them, the prevention of this would be to make sure Georgia walked on a path as much as possible and walked slowly if she was on the grass to make sure where she put her feet was in a safe place. Georgia also sat on an unstable fence, this was a hazard as the fence could break or Georgia could fall off. We had to make sure that we was ready to catch her if anything was to happen and that she wasn't sat on the fence for a long time. If we hadn't of tested this fence then it could of lead to an unfortunate event, but luckily to our risk assessment everything during filming went to plan and we was able to protect one another an ourselves to make sure no one was hurt.

Description of hazard
Prevention of hazard
Falling in between the gap at a train station, when stepping from the platform onto the train.
Ensure all group members stand behind the yellow line on the platform at all times. Also, make sure that the group are aware of surrounding people whether the platforms busy or quiet and the people getting on and off the train.
Risk of falling into the canal.
Make sure Georgia and Drew walk slowly and carefully when   approaching the canal. Ensure that when position themselves they do not step too near to the edge.
Being hit by motor vehicles when crossing the roads.
Ensure that Georgia and Drew cross the roads safely by either looking both ways repeatedly when crossing or to cross at traffic lights if available.
Damage inflicted to the camera.
Make sure all the safety straps are securely fastened onto my wrist at all times during filming. If the camera is placed onto the tripod, ensure that the tripod itself is held to prevent it being knocked over.
Risk caused by the surrounding diverse people, with the possible risk of theft.
Make sure all equipment is kept at a close distance and are kept safe by all group members, particularly me being the cameraman, reducing the risk of theft. Another prevention is so wear safety straps on at all times.
Risk of team members or surrounding people tripping over the equipment eg. The tripod.
Make sure everyone stays out of the equipment zone. This will require extra team members helping to direct the general public around the equipment ensuring everyone remains safe and unharmed.
Health risk to Georgia and Drew when smoking.
Make sure the characters are not to inhale the smoke too much and are not around it for too long. We could always use an E-cigarette as an alternative, however would not have the same effect.

History of Music Videos

History of Music Videos

There are many ways in which people can watch music videos, such as Youtube.
This is the main place in which you can watch music videos after their release and VEVO a music channel designed for every artist, can have a bit of fun once a video has been released to see how many views the video gets in the first 24 hours. This also is a website in which you can pick what music video you would like to watch where music channels have a sequence of music videos and you don't have a say in what music video comes up next. Although their have been new channels made which let you text in and ask for a music video to be played. Along with the genre of every music video their are many different channels this lets you pick which genre you would like to hear, and once your on the channel your most likely going to hear something you like or that you know. The way the public can watch music videos has changed a lot as their never used to be able to go on the internet and watch them on youtube, or call in to a network and ask them to play a song they want. This has all been very recent with the new technology that we have. This has also let more and more people watch whatever music video they want to whenever they want to as it is a free 24/7 website that is in frequent use by everyone in the world.

MTV which was the first music channel was launched on August 1, 1981. At this same time MTV launched with the words 'Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll' spoken by John Lack and played over footage of the first Space Shuttle launch countdown of Columbia, which took place earlier that year and of the launch of Apollo 11. The first music video that was shown was The Buggles 'Video Killed the Radio Star' this was followed by the video for Pat Benatar's 'You Better Run'. Periodically every time an employee of MTV changed a VCR tape, the screen would go black. This shows that they had lots more to create by the time they had viewers all around the world.

Technology and Special Effects have changed since they were first used in 1856 by Alfred Clarke who is commonly know as the first ever motion picture special effect. He was given the name while filming a reenactment of May, Queen of Scots being beheaded. As the executioner brought the axe above the actors head, Clarke stopped the camera and had the actors freeze and had the person playing Mary step off the set and be replaced with a dummy and then let the executor bring the axe down severing the dummy head. This technique is still used to this day.

In order to do special effects they used computer generated imagery or CGI, this has changed every aspect of motion picture special effects. Digital imagery has enabled technicians to create detailed models and even fully realized characters with the malleability of computer software. In 1993, Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park was filled with animated but realistic dinosaurs. By 1995, films like Toy Story discovered that the distinction between live action films and animated films were no longer clear, they looked so alike. To this day films like Avatar, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings still fascinated the audience on how the film's setting was created.

Justin Bieber used to be the person who was the most viewed on Youtube but that has changed as Rihanna is now the most viewed artist on Youtube with nearly 4 billion views. Rihanna's channel has existed since May 2009 and has 3,784,030,789 views which Justin Bieber's channel has existed since September 2009 and has 3,782,989,210 views.

In the 1960's we see the formation and evolution of rock, it began to merge into a more international electric variant known as rock. Rock and roll in its purest form was gradually overtaken by pop rock, blues rock and folk rock which had all grown in popularity. The rock music in 1960's grew a generation of popular singer-songwriters who wrote and performed their work. This decade also saw funk and soul music rising in popularity and rhythm and blues in general remained popular in the girl groups around that time.

The 1970's saw a rise of disco which became one of the biggest genres in the decade. Rock music played an important part in the western musical scene with punk rock introducing itself at the end of the decade. Other genres such as reggae were innovative throughout the century and grew a significant following. Hip hop also grew in this decade but wasnt very popular until the late 1980's.

The 1980's saw pop and dance music. Disco fell less popular and euro disco and disco pop became more popular. 1980's are commonly know for the heavy use of synthesizers and synthopop music. Throughout the decade R&B, hip hop and urban music were general but becoming commonplace, particulary in the inner city areas. Rap was especially successful in the later part of the decade. These urban genres, rap and hip hop particulary would continue their rise in popularity through the 1990's and 2000's.

Popular music in the 1990's consisted of teen pop and dance pop trends. Hip hop also grew and continued to be highly successful in the decade. Urban music in general remained popular throughout the decade and often blended with different styles such as soul, funk and jazz.

2000's saw pop music fragment into smaller trends, however in late 2000's there was a slight degree or originality. It saw the creation of emo styled music. The British grime genre grew success as well as trap in the United States. The popularity of teen pop carried over from 1990's with artists such as Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. R&B was very successful in the early 2000's but saw a steep decline in the popularity through the decade.

2010's saw pop come back after nearly 10 years it included artists such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. Disco has made an influence on many popular songs in 2010's music, especially in 2013 with songs such as Daft's Punk 'Get Lucky' Bruno Mars 'Treasure' Justin Timberlake ' Take Back the Night'. The top R&B artists from 2010's are Rihanna, Usher, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Trey Songz, Neyo, Miguel and Frank Ocean.
